ReSTOR Lens
An intraocular lens is an artificial lens implanted inside the eye that replaces the natural lens. In the past, intraocular lenses only corrected for one focal point, such as distance or near. These lenses are still the most commonly used implants.
The ReSTOR lens is a newer lens implant, which allows patients to see clearly at all distances without bifocals or reading glasses. Most patients who have had the ReSTOR lens implanted have an increased freedom from glasses and are able to get by without them for most day-to-day activities.
This lens is usually used during cataract surgery, but can also be used to replace the clear lens in an eye that does not yet have a cataract. In this situation, the patient would have no need for cataract surgery in the future since the natural lens has already been removed. This is a good opttion for a middle-aged person who is thinking about corrective eye surgey.
